Information Technology Management is the discipline whereby all of the information technology resources of a firm are aligned with the needs of its business strategy. These resources may include tangible investments like computer hardware, software, data, networks and data centres, as well as the staff hired to implement and maintain them. Due to hefty costs during design stages and decreased needs for staffing once a solution goes live, many organisations contract out the development process to competent IT consulting firms.

Managing this responsibility within a company entails many of the basic management functions, like budgeting, staffing, change management, and organizing and controlling, along with other aspects that are unique to technology, like software design, network planning, tech support etc.
