Ranau Rocks with RANPAXC 2017
While paragliding is a popular sport in many parts of the world, it is relatively in its infancy in Malaysia. However, recent indications of increased interest among Malaysians is certainly a promising sign for the growth and future of the sport in the country. The special guest of RANPAXC 2017 was the Permanent Secretary of Sabah’s Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datu Rosmadi Datu Sulai, representing the Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun, who also gave away the prizes to the following winners:

“The Ministry of tourism, Sabah is extremely enthusiastic about the development and eventual impact of Adventure and Recreational Tourism in the state, under which paragliding is a major highlight and tourist attraction,” said Datu Rosmadi. “The overall success of RANPAXC 2017, which showcased wonderfully skilled and competitive pilots and great sportsmanship, is indeed a feather in the cap for Malaysia and the state of Sabah,” he added.
Part of the 2017 Malaysian Paragliding Circuit, RANPAXC 2017 is the first of many progressive steps towards establishing the sport as one for the masses. MSAF Paragliding Bureau will be leading from the front in governing the sport in line with international standards and, training existing and new paragliders to become globally competitive.
“The competition was a great success. Ranau offers a great Paragliding site. Together with the continous support from the Tourism Ministry, Sports Ministry, IPEC Bureau and private sponsors, I’m sure Paragliding will grow into a big and popular sport in Malaysia and produce world ranking athletes.” said Captain Mohd Arif Ibrahim, the President of Malaysia Sport Aviation Federation (MSAF)
RANPAXC 2017 was supported by certification body IPEC Bureau, which will be working closely with MSAF Paragliding Bureau to establish conformity assessments for a paragliding certification scheme based on the ISO/IEC17024 that will benefit the sport’s key personnel such as trainers, instructors and safety crew.
IPEC Bureau’s Chief Executive Officer Dr Juliana Lim shares her enthusiasm on this collaboration and how it enhances the sport in Malaysia.
“The collaboration with Paragliding Bureau MSAF will have a postive impact for the growth of paragliding in Malaysia towards attaining international recognition. Through conformity assessments of the ISO/IEC17024 for the sport, we also hope to blend in safety practices and encourage the sport’s personnel to adhere to them.”
The 2017 Malaysian Paragliding Circuit also serves as a significant platform to identify and train highly talented Malaysian paragliders to represent the country at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia. RANPAXC 2017 is the first of many high-octane paragliding action to come as the Circuit visits other states in Malaysia in the months ahead. So, stay tuned!

RANAU, 13 MARCH 2017 – Stunning displays of aerial prowess illuminated the Ranau Paragliding Park in Sabah, Malaysia from 10 – 12 March, 2017. The Ranau Paragliding Accuracy & XC 2017 or RANPAXC 2017, organised by MSAF Paragliding Bureau, is the first ever Malaysia ranking paragliding competition held in Malaysia and it certainly didn’t disappoint those that were present to witness the spectacle of almost 100 paragliders in action.
