Certification Process Begins For Advanced Aestheticians
IPEC Bureau recently kick-started the Advanced Aesthetics Program designed to certify advanced aestheticians, and this should be a time of unbridled optimism for the industry as efforts to promote professionalism and advocate safe practices in the regional beauty & aesthetic science scene has begun in earnest.
Recently, Malaysian daily the New Straits Times (NST) featured a report on millions of Malaysian consumers increasingly putting themselves at risk with questionable beauty products. NST’s Special Probes team, through reputable lab tests on cosmetic products sourced from various avenues, discovered harmful – and even dangerous – substances in their contents.
This report (www.nst.com.my/news/2016/12/198864/exclusive-toxic-cosmetics-killing-malaysians-video?d=1) together with countless other recent findings only adds to the quality and safety uncertainties often clouding the industry. The Advanced Aesthetics Program is one of many crucial programs to enhance regulatory efficiency through certified competency.
Thus far, the absence of national industry standards for certified beauticians, aestheticians, cosmetologist practitioners and the likes have given rise to dubious practitioners, such as the “backstreet experts”, that take advantage of vulnerable consumers. Some of the more recent occurrences of beauty and aesthetics malpractices can be found in the following links:
Certifying competency through initiatives such as the Advanced Aesthetics Program is, therefore, imperative to help beauty establishments and practitioners gain recognition for their best practises towards creating a safer and more regulated environment and instil greater confidence and trust among consumers.
